03 Mar 2024 George and Sakaye Aratani CARE fund
The 2024 George and Sakaye Aratani CARE fund, administered by UCLA’s Asian American Studies Center, has granted to the Tuna Canyon Detention Station Coalition for the “Only the Oaks Remain—World War II Tuna Canyon Detention Station” book.
The awards committee commends your ongoing work to preserve and disseminate the history of the arrest and confinement of Japanese, German, and Italian immigrants in Los Angeles during World War II. Our award to help support the “Only the Oaks Remain—World War II Tuna Canyon Detention Station” book provides us with an excellent opportunity to circulate UCLA’s name, as well as build UCLA’s reputation for supporting a range of educational activities related to the history of Nikkei communities in the Americas.
